Intensification of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings has spread throughout Balochistan. BSO AZAD
In recent months, The scope of these human rights violations, including fake encounters, military operations, and other forms of exploitation, has expanded as Pakistan continues its campaign to suppress the Baloch population in pursuit of its harmful objectives. The silence of global powers regarding the violence unleashed against the Baloch people has emboldened Pakistani authorities, allowing them to intensify their brutalities in the region.
Under the pretext of counterinsurgency operations, the Pakistani state is falsely labeling innocent individuals as militants (Sarmachars) to justify their extrajudicial killings. The claims made by the military, asserting the deaths of dozens of Baloch people in recent days, are concerning, particularly as the true identities of the victims remain undisclosed. We are all too familiar with Pakistan’s tactics: the abduction and murder of innocent individuals in custody, followed by the false narrative of their being militants.
In recent days, multiple people have gone missing at the hands of security agencies in Makuran, Jalawan, and other regions of Balochistan. Notably, Dad Ullah Baloch, an M.Phil scholar, was shot and killed by Pakistani death squads in Kech town yesterday. His death serves as yet another example of Pakistan’s targeted campaign to eliminate educated Baloch youth and intellectuals, a strategy aimed at stifling the development of the Baloch nation. Dad Ullah’s killing is not an isolated incident. Every day in Balochistan, the state continues its brutal practices, with disappearances and killings becoming a disturbing routine.
Just yesterday in Kech city, two young men, Hassan Sarwar and Kamal Sharif, were abducted in broad daylight by secret agencies. In addition to these, individuals such as Mahmod, Roshin, Raheem, Adil, Rahil, and many others have disappeared in recent days, their whereabouts and fates still unknown. The state is also creating an atmosphere of fear, using threats, harassment, and intimidation to suppress dissent. Political activists are being targeted through fabricated FIRs (First Information Reports), while the principal of a private school was attacked with hand grenades and gunfire by death squad members. These actions are part of a calculated strategy to further the genocide of the Baloch people.
It is imperative that the Baloch nation resists these state-sponsored atrocities. If this cycle of brutality is left unchallenged, the occupying state will only escalate its violence. Pakistani intelligence agencies and the military are planning a major crackdown on the Baloch people, and only consistent resistance can prevent this from coming to fruition. The international community, including the great powers, must take notice of the ongoing situation in Balochistan, as Pakistan is a signatory to the United Nations’ human rights declaration and should be held accountable for its actions.
