Gwadar city is strategically one of the crucial areas in Balochistan. Every expansionist and imperialist has put their evil eyes on the deep hot sea of Gwadar. Like other expansionist powers, China is one of them. It has expended millions of dollars on Gwadarโ€™s sea under the name of so-called CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor). But the foreign powers, in collaboration with the colonial state of Pakistan, have been in an illusionary state for dominating Gwadar, Balochistan. Gwadar has always produced brave and courageous figures who have stood before the occupiers. It either be Hammal Jeeyand โ€” a Baloch who struggled against the expansionist Portugalโ€” or be Comrade Qayyum and Naseer Kamalan. They have always been on the front line to defend not only the seaโ€” the Baloch seaโ€” but the whole Baloch land.

Shaheed Lala Hameed was also one of these characters who struggled for the protection of the Baloch land and its people. Lala Hameed Baloch was born on February 8, 1985 in the house of Haji Hayatan Baloch at Gwadar. He studied his basic education from his hometown. Later he did a bachelorโ€™s degree in Media and Journalism and was an enthusiastic journalist who was an energetic advocate for the Baloch national struggle. By studying media and journalism he became a passionate voice for the Baloch cause.

During his student career he joined the student political activism in Baloch Students Organisation (BSO-Aman). He played a major role in organising the student political activism in Gwadar and attracting a wide number of students to the student political activism. In the year of 2006, when Shaheed Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti was martyred by the Pakistani army, Shaheed Lala Hameed totally transformed his political thoughts and joined the political struggle for the freedom of Balochistan. After leaving BSO-Aman he joined Baloch Noujawan Ittehad and organised protests against the extrajudicial murder of Nawab Bugti. He later became part of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), and played his pivotal role in organising BNM in Gwadar as one of its founding members in Gwadar. Later he served as its Zonal President of Gwadar, and remained as President until he was martyred extrajudicially.

He was a conscious mind who was aware of the needs of the national movement in the modern era. As a journalist, he played his conscious role in founding the Gwadar Press Club. In a short-lived journalistic career, Lala repeated for Daily Tawar, Royal TV, Daily Karachi, Gateway, and Mashar. His role was hurting the Pakistani state like a thorn, and they decided to shoot him down. For completing their job, they forcibly abducted Lala Hameed Baloch on October 25, 2010 by the Pakistani intelligence agencies and then he was subsequently martyred and his mutilated body was thrown away after 16 days alongside the mutilated body of Hamid Ismail Baloch โ€” who was forcibly disappeared few months earlierโ€” at Heeronk, Kech. Both of their bodies were recovered on the occasion of Eid. This is what the violence and atrocity is, Gwadar still faces from the Pakistani state under the so-called CPEC.
